Learn 120s

120s is the Newfoundland card game of tricks, trumps and bids. These free lessons teach it one small step at a time, at a real card table against Puffin Pete. No account is needed and nothing can go wrong: a wrong card gets a plain explanation and another try.

Level 1: Your first hand

1. One card each. What a trick is, who wins it, and who plays first next time.
2. Trump beats everything. The trump suit, and why the Ace of hearts is always a trump.
3. The big three. The 5 of trumps, the Jack of trumps and the Ace of hearts.
4. Red high, black low. In red suits a bigger number wins. In black suits a smaller number wins.
5. What you may play. Follow the suit led or play a trump, and why some cards go dim.
6. Where points come from. Five points a trick, five more for each of the big three.
7. Your first full hand. A whole hand from the deal to the score with every card showing.
8. The same hand, cards hidden. The hand you just played, the way a real game looks.
